My light’s not out yet says campaigner fighting battle against Trafford plans for LED street lamps

Manchester Evening News

A ‘white knight’ fighting council bosses over a scheme to replace thousands of street lights in Trafford with LED technology insists he won’t give up despite the battle seeming all but over.

Simon Nicholas has been at war with Trafford town hall over the £9.3m scheme to roll out eco-friendly LED lights for the past two years.

He was successful in getting council bosses to delay the plan twice last year after raising concerns it was not cost effective, could have serious health and environmental implications and could affect residents’ sleep.

But after the town hall teamed up with giant firm Amey to deliver a raft of services, the scheme was finally given the go-ahead on the back of advice from independent experts.
